The rumors about Yamaha revealing its four-stroke stand-up and getting stronger and more serious than the previous years. It not a secret that Yamaha engineers have been testing this project for many years actually since Hydrospace came up with S4 back in 2006. However, the risk of putting a four stroke engine into a stand-up that it is bound to sub any minute while playing on the water put them in to severe thinking regarding the terms of warranty… A few years ago the Yamaha engineers visited Lake Havasu City at the World Finals in 2016 and spent a lot of time looking at the Kommander K1 ski which was a combined effort of Bill Chapin and Kommander crew. Also, they tested this particular ski after the World Finals at Winsdor Beach. A year later Yamaha carried out some more testing in Florida using the same three-cylinder engine package in a NA format and not turbocharged. Possibly the time has come for Yamaha to launch its new four-stroke ski and that will happen in less than a months time (12th of August) in the USA. More rumors talk about the Yamaha Dealer Meeting that has already been done and some dealers had the opportunity to ride the new 1050 three-cylinder four-stroke ski which is shorter than the 1500 SX-R and more compact. Let’s face it. Another ski in the market will be good for the sport and the market however the point is will it belong in its own class in Racing? Otherwise it will create only troubles as we have seen them in the past with the Hydros…
