Kev-Racing reports from 2018 King’s Cup

During the past weekend, the world's best jet skiers shook the coast in the Gulf of Thailand. Once again, the athletes showed that this young watersport is incredible, action packed and exciting to follow. The Pro Ski GP category has seen some of the most exciting racing ever. Four different winners in four motos solely stressed the competition of this number one show act. The Austrian took it away with a strong victory in moto one. Despite a bad start in moto two Reiterer managed to pick his way through the field and settled for second after being 7th on lap one. On day two, less wind and waves brought the faster skis out to the front of the pack. With a solid third place finish in moto three, Reiterer was in the hunt for the overall title. The Victory Team racer and the young Frenchman Raphael Maurin were only separated by 7 points. In Lap three, Raphael was just one position ahead of the Austrian. It seemed to be the battle of the year. Both racers in contention, ready to lay everything on the line for the win. Pushing their ski through the wide open sea of Thailand Reiterer suddenly came to a stop and retired from the race due to an electrical failure. The Frenchman went on to win the final Moto respectively. The overall title put Maurins name into the history books next to the best racers of all time. Victory Team’s Reiterer, despite a DNF in the last Moto, finished third behind Maurin and Quinten Bossche (BEL). “The Team has done everything right and worked immense to get the best race setup to compete against a stacked field of amazing athletes. A DNF is always hard to swallow. As a racer you want to give it your all. If you are unable to fight till the last lap due to technical problems it hurts. However it is a well deserved win for Raph”, says Kevin. “It was the first year as a team competing at this unique event. Widely regarded as the most difficult race a season. We fitted the ski to suit Kevins riding style and adjusted it for the open sea conditions. Our focus is always to provide our racers with the tools to win. However, the unforeseen electrical problem played a big part in our plans. We examined the wire which corroded due to salt water and therefore lost power to the battery. As far as we can say now it is a mistake cause by the manufacture and will be further examined by your specialists“, states Team Manager Chris Wilkinson.
